Moldova. The Village Evangelism of Children.

Moldova, August 2015

We began the Village Evangelism of Children on 13th August. For the following five days we shared the Gospel with children from the village of Negresti, not far from our mission base in Straseni. How did it go this time? Here are a few comments from Piotra, one of the participants of this event:

“Together with Wojtek, Julian, Kornelia, Wiesia, Radek, Tomek, Adrian, Adam and Maciek, and of course with Moldovan friends, we are leading lessons for children in the nearby village of Negreszti. There are many kids here. Today, 13th August, a whole load of them came to our meeting. There was a girl who listened intently to the stories we told, there was a boy – a little fidget, and other little ones. I also met Valerik’s grandmother and spent some time talking to her. Valerik was born with brain damage. Until he was ten years old he could not walk. Two years ago he underwent an operation which gave hope for an improvement in his situation. Valerik got up on his legs and started to walk. He still needs rehabilitation, but it is such a huge improvement. I thank God for this day. For the girl who was taking it all in, for the boy who was playing up and for Valerik and his grandmother. “ … Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.” Phil 1:18

I met two new children – a girl called Antonella and a boy named Marin. They challenged my Frisbee skills. Marin has problems with his heart, he cannot exert himself too much physically. He has already undergone an operation and is seen by a doctor. He also told me about another medical problem but unfortunately, I did not understand very well. Oh, that language barrier … thank God that in the fun and games we could understand each other very well. Today, the children learnt about the truths of sin and God’s redemption through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. I am happy that quite a few of the children know that the Bible is the Word of God in which we can find the truth about ourselves and about God. “I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus.” Phil 3:14

While being here in Moldova and observing the reality of life, many questions come into my heart and my head is full of various thoughts. Thoughts of the children with whom I am spending time, about their family situations, about their futures. There are questions about the causes of poverty and about the chances of bringing real change to the society. Where can one look for help? Where can one look for hope? I for sure need more wisdom… But there is hope in Him who has no lack of wisdom. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Phil 4:6 – 8

Thank you to every one of you who prayed for this evangelism! And to each of you who helped financially or materially! I encourage you to pray for the children of Nagresti! About their families and the whole village, so that the seeds sown would bring fruit! And also that “the sower and the reaper may be glad together”
